Special attention will be given to studies with female kayakers at Frontiers in Physiology
Special research topic Training and Performance in Canoe Slalom was recently opened at Frontiers in Physiology (Frontiers). This Research Topic aims to gather high-quality research involving the factors that affect or are associated with the canoe slalom performance. While a wide spectrum of research focused on this matter will be considered, special attention will be given to studies with female kayakers, fulfilling the main scientific lacks in this scenario. Basic research studies, performance analyses, laboratory investigations, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses are welcome.
Professor Leonardo Messias together with professors James Wakeling, Ivan Reis and Filipe Sousa, I coordinate the research topic. During last year's ECSS scientific conference in Seville, Jan Busta spoke to Professors Messias and Wakeling about the importance of adding to scientific knowledge in women's canoe slalom and this is one of the results.
We would like to contribute several scientific articles to this special research topic at Frontiers in Physiology. Therefore, we would like to organize extensive data collection during the 2023 ICF Canoe Slalom World Cup in Prague and during the 2023 ICF Canoe Slalom World Ranking Competition in Prague. We would be delighted if you could join us!
First consortium meeting in Prague
We are glad to announce that the grant team met for the very first time during the first weekend of this year, January 7-8. The meeting in the UK FTVS’s boathouse in Prague – Troja was organised by the grant coordinator Jan Busta and involved all parter organisations representatives: Isak Öhström (SWE, Falu Kanot Klubb, partner organisation coordinator), Bo-Marcusem Lidström (SWE, Falu Kanot Klubb, club chairman) and Martin Stanovský (SVK, Slovak Canoeing, partner organisation representative and administrator). Other consortium members were present online. The team managed to fulfill all tasks scheduled for the first weekend: the project timeline was set, the scope of e-learning methodical materials was specified, together with the steps leading to creating them. At the same time, a collection of the project’s promotional materials was introduced and revealed and all the details of financial cooperation amongst partner organisations were agreed on. In the spare time in the evening, the team visited the magical city of Prague, ending with a delicious tasting of the traditional Czech cuisine. The whole team is very happy to have started up the cooperation. We look forward to adding professional content to this website, which will be designed to help girls and women in their canoe careers. We hope and believe that a great number of you will engage in the project and thus we will help more girls and women to join and stay in the canoe sport world – as athletes, coaches, representatives or volunteers.
